The Communications Committee is a volunteer initiative to support and provide overall guidance and direction to:
- Serve as a communications resource (technical writing, marketing, and networking technology support) to all IGIC committees and workgroups
- Provide marketing and outreach coordination for IGIC
- Maintain IGIC identity standards.
- Assist in maintaining IndianaMap identity standards and social media policy
- Establishing and maintaining media distribution channels and contacts.
- Support current implementation of the Cvent Event and Membership Management modules and make recommendations for improvements.
- Support the ongoing maintenance of the igic.org, conference.igic.org websites to take advantage of new web technology and better integrate with our social media efforts.
- Research, test and recommend communication technology to support IGIC.
The mission of the Conference Committee is to provide a forum to educate, communicate, and network with our GIS peers in an enjoyable atmosphere. The experience is designed to enhance GIS throughout the state - from novices to highly advanced users - while not endorsing any specific product or design.
Support the development and implementation of the adopted Statewide Data Integration Plan, as well as provide support for the IndianaMap County Data Sharing Initiative with local government.
- Help advance the Local -> State -> Federal data sharing roll-up and data stewardship model.
- Provide ongoing planning, design and deployment support for our County Data Sharing Initiative.
- Address policy issues and partnership agreements regarding data access and distribution.
- Support the development and evolution of new data standards, models and methods to support data sharing and stewardship efforts across Indiana.
- Address geospatial data security and data exchange issues.
- Develop metrics and review status of framework data implementation as input to IGIC’s annual Data Integration Plan delivered to the State Geographic Information Officer.
- Provide a blueprint to guide the community of stakeholders on how to build and maintain the IndianaMap through IGIC’s Statewide Data Integration Plan.
- To educate those that use and benefit from GIS in Indiana (including the public and decision-makers) regarding the use and benefits of geographic information through the development and delivery of educational content.
- Organize webinars and workshops. These events will be spaced throughout the year.
- Organize IGIC’s Annual Government Geospatial Coordinator Forum.
- Collaborate with IGIC Committees, Workgroups and Strategic Partners to support and help develop additional geospatial training opportunities.
- Manage the annual IGIC Board of Director’s nominations and elections process. Responsibilities include:
- Build the annual slate of IGIC board nominees from qualified candidates.
- Encourage participation of all members in IGIC leadership roles in a way that promotes geographic distribution.
- Conduct and report annual elections for IGIC board members and board officers.
The Executive Committee is to act for the Board in order to provide a timely response to issues and events when it is not possible or practical for the full Board to meet. The Executive Committee includes IGIC's president, vice president, past president, secretary and treasurer.
An ad-hoc group to help identify new and existing income sources and strategies to support IGIC objectives. Specific objectives include:
- Develop and pursue strategies to maintain IGIC operational budget.
- Provide strategy and advocacy for funding the IndianaMap.
- Develop and pursue strategies, partnerships, and funding opportunities to support IGIC projects.

The Government Affairs Committee (GAC) is responsible for keeping watch on government policies, laws and introduced legislation that affects the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC) and its members.
- While the GAC will remain neutral regarding any geospatial advocacy the IGIC might pursue itself, or encourage the membership, or a sector of the membership to pursue, it may advise the IGIC’s leadership on matters related to the verbiage of advocacy and position statements if requested to do so.
- The GAC will notify the Executive Committee when it identifies legislation that may impact the IGIC and/or Indiana geospatial professionals more generally.
- The GAC will provide executive overviews and other informational material related to legislation to the IGIC’s leadership and/or general membership upon request by the Executive Committee.
To strengthen and grow the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC) by expanding membership, enhancing member value, and fostering strategic partnerships that advance GIS across Indiana through collaboration, networking, sponsorship, and stakeholder engagement. Objectives include:
- Coordinating membership recruitment and retention efforts.
- Identifying, expanding, and communicating valuable member benefits.
- Growing corporate, institutional, and partner involvement through memberships, sponsorships, and collaborative relationships.
- Building and strengthening relationships between IGIC, its partners, sponsors, exhibitors, and stakeholders.
- Promoting the value of GIS and strategic partnerships through networking, advocacy, and meaningful alliances.
- Supporting the success of the annual IGIC Conference through sponsor, exhibitor, partner, and member engagement.
The Board of Geographic Names mission is to maintain uniform geographic name usage throughout the state for use by local, State, and Federal government.
- Define and govern appropriate procedures for naming and renaming geographic features.
- Provide recommendations to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names regarding Indiana names for official use.
- Review proposed name changes and provide response as requested to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names.
The Cadastre-Boundaries-PLSS Workgroup’s mission is to develop plans, standards, and technical implementation guidance for the following:
- IndianaMap framework data layers:
- Cadastre - Land Parcels (GIO)
- Governmental Boundary Units
- GIS County Boundary
- Public Land Survey System (PLSS)
- Surveyor Tie Card
- General Land Office (GLO) Field Notes and Plats
- Develop data standards and identify appropriate standards-based data schema.
- Develop plans that include the following:
- Inventory of existing data
- Stakeholder data requirements
- Data stewards
- Costs
- Work flow
- Data transfer mechanisms (with support of Data Integration Workgroup)
- Update frequency
- Maintenance frequency
- Refine and maintain plans as necessary.
- Develop metrics and review status of framework data implementation as input to IGIC’s annual Data Integration Plan delivered to the State Geographic Information Officer.
This joint ISPLS & IGIC Committee works on topics of importance to both organizations. Current initiatives includes statewide:
- Geodetic control Height Modernization to improve vertical results from GPS surveys in Indiana.
- Development of Geospatial Coordinate Reference Systems across Indiana to support seamless and error-free grid-to-ground (survey to GIS) data transformations.
The Elevation Workgroup’s mission is to develop plans, standards, and technical implementation guidance for the IndianaMap Elevation framework data layers.
- Develop data standards and identify appropriate standards-based data schema
- Develop plans that include the following:
- Inventory of existing data
- Stakeholder data requirements
- Data stewards
- Costs
- Work flow
- Data transfer mechanisms (with support of Data Integration Workgroup)
- Update frequency
- Maintenance frequency
- Data applications
- Refine and maintain plans as necessary.
- Develop metrics and review status of framework data implementation as input to IGIC’s annual Data Integration Plan delivered to the State Geographic Information Officer.
This workgroup is responsible for developing plans, standards, and technical implementation guidance for the streets and addresses IndianaMap framework data layers.

- Develop plans that include the following:

- Stakeholder data requirements
- Data stewards
- Costs
- Work flow
- Data transfer mechanisms (with support of Data Integration Workgroup)

The Waters Workgroup’s mission is to develop plans, standards, and technical implementation guidance for the IndianaMap waters framework data layers. At the workgroup’s recommendation, IGIC has adopted the National Hydrography Dataset for Indiana as the waters framework data.

With the increase use of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, there seems to be just as many questions as opportunities. If you have ever had a question about AGOL, this support group is for you. We will be discussing everything from issues you may have, to how to utilize ArcPro with AGOL, to how to manage your Organization.
The purpose of the group is to provide a platform for the ArcGIS Pro user community to gather and share solutions, tricks ant tips, and ask for assistance from others in the community.
The ArcGIS Server Support Group meets to impart general information and provide helpful tips and tricks about ArcGIS Server and its components. Presentations and demos are also offered by members willing to share their experiences with the group. This meeting is open to anyone interested in engaging in lively discussion and supporting others on their journey to Enterprise enlightenment.
This support group is aimed at programming issues and help topics. Languages range from python to model builder and from javascript apis all the way to arcade scripts and everything in between. Whether you are a veteran programmer or simply need help automating a task, this support group is for you. Open to everyone of all skillsets. Meetings typically include project updates from members and issues or questions they have encountered followed by a presentation on a programming topic.
The purpose of this support group is to give those in charge of their organization’s GIS to share topics for discussion. Topics may include anything related to the day-to-day operations of their GIS. Participants may discuss their current issues or propose future topics. We hope to provide support to those new in the geospatial field as well as allow seasoned professionals opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise.
From workflow design to boots on the ground, the Public Works GIS Support Group meets to discuss GIS workflow strategies and field data collection efforts that enhance the management of Public Works assets, including utilities and roadway infrastructure. Members share insights through presentations and demos, offering valuable real-world experiences. This meeting is open to all, from beginners to experts, and provides an opportunity for lively discussions and collaborative support among those using GIS to support Public Works.
